New Delhi: Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in search of launch of central funds to launch pending wages of lakhs of Mahatma Gandhi Nationwide Rural Employment Assure Scheme (MGNREGS) employees in West Bengal .
Since March 2022, the Modi authorities has stopped funds below MGNREGS to West Bengal, citing non-compliance with the Centre’s pointers below the Mahatma Gandhi Nationwide Rural Employment Assure Act, 2005.
Rahul, who met a delegation of MGNREGS employees from the state throughout his ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra, identified the “devastating plight” of employees who haven’t been paid because of the freeze in funding.

The shortage of MGNREGS work and pending wages have compelled many to make troublesome decisions – particularly emergency migration.”
